The Padres claimed outfielder Quintin Berry off waivers from the Phillies on Wednesday, then optioned the 25-year-old to Double-A San Antonio. Berry, a fifth-round pick by the Phillies in the 2006 Draft who has yet to reach the Majors, appeared in 66 games for Double-A Reading this season, batting .210 with two homers, 25 RBIs and 23 stolen bases. The left-handed-hitting speedster, who was born in San Diego, has spent most of his Minor League career in center field, though he also has experience as a left fielder. In his Minor League career, Berry is a .267 hitter with a .692 OPS, 13 homers and 196 stolen bases.
