PHOENIX -- On Saturday, Chris Young got on a mound for the first time since May 2 and threw 30 fastballs in a bullpen session without incident.
"I worked in and out and got the feel back," Young said. "Physically, I felt good. I didn't feel anything in my shoulder."
Young, on the 60-day disabled list since April 7 with a strained right shoulder, is hopeful that he can return to pitch this season. His bullpen session at Chase Field, Young said, was a start.
"We'll just keep building to see what my shoulder can handle," Young said. "Today was a step in the right direction."
Young has only appeared in one game this season for the Padres. Oddly enough, that occurred here in Phoenix where he tossed six scoreless innings in the second game of the season.
Before Saturday, Young hadn't thrown off a mound since a rehabilitation stint on May 2 with Double-A San Antonio.
