Harang goes five innings; Padres win in 10th
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Padres put together a three-run rally in the top of the 10th inning to get past the Rangers, 7-4, on Thursday night.

Oscar Salazar drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Padres on top for good, Sawyer Carroll delivered an RBI single and Rob Johnson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the inning.

Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin left the game in the second inning with what was called a tight right quadriceps muscle. He will be re-evaluated on Friday.

Padres pitcher Aaron Harang went five innings and allowed four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and two walks. Harang, who will be either the Padres' third or fourth starter, threw 99 pitches, including 63 for strikes.

"I didn't feel as sharp tonight," said Harang, who will make his last Cactus League start Tuesday against the Brewers. "I didn't have my best command and had to battle. And they were up there hacking."

Rangers starter Dave Bush also went five innings and allowed four runs. He gave up four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out one. He threw 67 pitches, including 46 strikeouts.

Josh Hamilton hit his second home run of the spring by clearing the center-field fence in the bottom of the first.

There were two notable relief appearances. Brett Tomko took over for Bush and threw two scoreless innings as he continues to make a strong bid for a spot in the Rangers' rotation. He has pitched five straight scoreless innings over his past two appearances.

Pat Neshek, claimed off waivers from the Twins on Sunday, made his second appearance for the Padres and pitched a scoreless inning. He tossed one scoreless inning in his debut on Tuesday, striking out two. Neshek has one Minor League option left, but he could begin the season as part of the bullpen on the 25-man roster.

Up next for the Rangers: Derek Holland pitches for the Rangers at 6:40 p.m. PT on Friday against the Rockies in Scottsdale, Ariz. Holland is 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA in four starts and has already earned a spot in the rotation. Right now, he is in line to pitch the fifth game of the season against the Mariners on April 5. This game can be seen on MLB.TV.

Up next for the Padres: Outfielder Ryan Ludwick, sidelined for most of the last week with a sore left shin, is looking forward to getting some at-bats between now and when camp breaks on Tuesday. Look for him to be in the lineup again on Friday when the Padres visit Goodyear, Ariz., to face the Reds at 1:05 p.m. Ludwick, who has fouled two pitches off his calf in a three-day stretch, said Thursday he wants to get some at-bats before the team heads to St. Louis to start the season. Ludwick is hitting .290 with one home run in 31 at-bats, though he's hoping to get at least 20 more at-bats between now and Tuesday.
