Padres at the plate: The Padres scored five runs in the first inning to get the ball rolling on a big offensive day. Terrmel Sledge led off with a home run to right field, his fourth this spring. Adrian Gonzalez had a run-scoring double in the inning, and Khalil Greene, who would add a two-run home run, had an RBI single. Sledge had three hits, while three other players had two hits apiece. Josh Bard hit his first home run of the spring.

Rockies at the plate: Matt Holliday continued his strong spring with two hits to raise his average to .474. Garrett Atkins had a hit in three at-bats and knocked in his seventh run of the spring. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki had a hit and drove in a run before leaving the game after being hit on the right arm with a Doug Brocail pitch.

Padres on the mound: Starter Chris Young continues to turn in sharp outings this spring. He allowed one run on three hits over four innings, working ahead in the count. Brocail tossed a scoreless inning, as did Steve Watkins and Leo Rosales.

Rockies on the mound: Starter Rodrigo Lopez was hit hard early. He allowed seven runs -- six earned -- on six hits in four innings. Matt Herges tossed a scoreless inning in relief. Mike Gallo allowed one run in one inning.

Cactus League records: Padres 4-6; Rockies 6-4.

Up next: The Padres travel to Tucson on Sunday to face Arizona at 12:05 p.m. PT. Clay Hensley gets the start for San Diego. The Rockies are at home against the Royals at 12:05 p.m. Taylor Buchholz will start for Colorado.
