Young seeking first June victory

Young seeking first June victory

Chris Young takes the mound for the Padres in the second game of their three-game series against the Boston Red Sox.

The 6-foot-10 Young was last seen in Chicago, where he was pitching a no-hitter until he was ejected after an altercation took place between him and Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee. It started because of a pitch Young threw to Lee, which hit Lee. Young said it was unintentional.

But don't think this will be on Young's mind as he pitches on Saturday night. The Princeton alum knows what to focus on, and it's all toward the Boston's lineup.

Young's last win was on May 30 opposite the Pittsburgh Pirates. He threw seven shutout innings. He allowed four hits, struck out seven and walked one. His last three starts were no-decisions.

On the hill for the Boston Red Sox is Tim Wakefield. The knuckleballer won his last two starts at home vs. two National League West teams: the Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants. But his last road game was a loss on June 6 to the Oakland Athletics, where he allowed three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Young is looking for his seventh victory of the season and first for the month of June.
