Padres at the plate: Jeff DaVanon opened the game with a double, moved to the third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Kevin Kouzmanoff's grounder. Jody Gerut led off the fourth inning with a triple and scored on a passed ball. Edgar Gonzalez hit a seventh-inning homer, his first of the spring.

A's at the plate: Mark Ellis doubled with one out in the first inning and scored on Jack Cust's sun-glare-aided single. Ryan Sweeney added a two-run, bases-jammed single as the A's scored four times in the inning. Mike Sweeney continued his torrid spring with three hits, including an RBI double. Rob Bowen had three singles in his first three plate appearances.

Padres on the mound: Randy Wolf, making his second start, was beaten around in the first inning after striking out leadoff hitter Travis Buck. He lasted seven batters, allowing four runs on three hits, while walking two.

A's on the mound: Starter Lenny DiNardo went a fairly clean three innings, allowing one run on four hits, while walking one and striking out none. Dallas Braden followed with three innings of one-run, two-hit ball.

Cactus League records: Padres 3-3; A's 5-2.

Up next: Jake Peavy makes his second start of the spring at 12:05 p.m. PT on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies at the Peoria Sports Complex. Peavy is scheduled to throw three innings with Glendon Rusch set to follow him with two innings.
