"Sarah is a true professional with extensive experience and proven expertise in strategic communications and public affairs," said Padres President and COO Tom Garfinkel. She spent the past 19 years in Washington, D.C., most recently serving as deputy assistant secretary of defense for community and public outreach. In that role, Farnsworth was the Defense Department's primary liaison with national veterans and military service organizations and was responsible for managing community relations programs.
Prior to that post, she served as chief of staff and senior advisor to President Obama's National Security Advisor General Jim Jones, USMC (ret), having joined him at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 2007. As his senior advisor, Farnsworth accompanied Jones throughout his travels around the world and in meetings with national security counterparts and foreign leaders.
Before joining the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Farnsworth served as vice president and chief of staff to the USO World Headquarters from 2002-06, responsible for strategic planning and external relations. Her duties included outreach to Congress, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the White House and the USO Board of Governors while also leading more than 20 celebrity entertainment tours around the world.
A native of Sacramento, Farnsworth first moved to Washington, D.C. in January 1993 to serve on first lady Hillary Clinton's White House staff. As an aide to President Clinton and the first lady, she was responsible for coordinating and managing events in the White House, including state visits, bill signing ceremonies and social events.
Over the past 19 years, Farnsworth served two presidents and first ladies, a national security advisor and two secretaries of defense.
