"We wanted to provide discounted seats across the ballpark to fans that purchase in advance," said president and COO Tom Garfinkel. "Over time, as the game gets closer, ticket prices will normalize, but generally, fans who buy early will save money.
"As always, our season-ticket holders will enjoy the deepest discounts available. Season tickets remain the ultimate buy-early-and-save opportunity for our fans."
Single-game tickets will go on sale at the Petco Park box office, online at www.padres.com/tickets and by phone at 619-795-5555 at 7:30 a.m. PT on Feb. 11. Fans can also purchase tickets inside the stadium on FanFest that day at three locations starting at 8:30 a.m.
Texas-based Qcue has provided demand-based pricing software to the Padres and several other Major League teams as well as many other professional organizations, such as the NBA, MLS, NHL and NASCAR.
In addition, this year fans will have free ticket delivery options, such as printing at home, electronic forwarding and ticket kiosk pickup.
The Padres studied dynamic pricing for nine months before joining the Cardinals, Giants, A's, Twins, Mariners and Pirates in offering some semblance of dynamic pricing this season.
But unlike other clubs, the Padres will offer dynamic pricing throughout the ballpark, and are urging fans to buy single-game tickets early for the greatest discount.
Current season-ticket holders will always have the lowest price available in their seating category, thus no one who has season tickets will be undercut by dynamic pricing.
All told, nearly three-quarters of single-game tickets will go on sale at or below 2011 prices when they go on-sale on Feb. 11: 58 percent will be below 2011 prices, and 14 percent will be offered at the same price.
In addition, more than 14,000 seats for 34 weekday games will go on sale at or below $14, excluding the $5 Park Passes. A year ago, 7,743 seats were priced at $14 or below.
The Padres will continue to offer $6 off single-game tickets priced $13.50 or higher (excluding All-You-Can-Eat seats) for military personnel and seniors.
