SAN FRANCISCO -- Carlos Quentin was out of the lineup Friday for the second straight game as he continued to have soreness with his surgically repaired right knee.
The slugger returned to the lineup Wednesday after sitting six games to rest the knee, but experienced problems with it during the game. Jesus Guzman got the start in left field against the Giants on Friday.
"He's doing better and he's available tonight," manager Bud Black said Friday. "Not in the lineup, but you could see him off the bench."
Quentin had arthroscopic surgery on the knee in March and has had irritation with it in the last few weeks. Entering Friday, the 30-year-old was batting .263 with 16 home runs and 45 RBIs in 81 games this season after missing the first 49 games of the season as he recovered from the knee surgery.
