Padres acquire RHP Brandon Kloess

The San Diego Padres today announced they have acquired right-handed pitcher Brandon Kloess from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for outfielder Blake Tekotte who was designated for assignment on November 2.  Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Kloess, 27, spent the 2012 season between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte in the White Sox organization.  The right-hander combined last season to go 6-3 with a 2.69 ERA (22 ER/73.2 IP) with 70 strikeouts against 30 walks, one home run allowed and a .225 (62-for-276) opponents batting average.   Originally signed by Chicago as a minor league free agent in June of 2009, Kloess has gone 17-10 with a 2.39 ERA (71 ER/267.0 IP), 295 strikeouts against 81 walks and a .222 (218-for-983) opponents batting average in 132 games, five starts, across four minor league seasons (2009-12) in the White Sox organization.

Tekotte, 25, hit .163 (8-for-49) in 30 Major League games played over parts of two seasons with San Diego (2011-12).  He was selected by the Padres in the third-round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.  The left-handed hitter hit .269 (519-for-1929) with 112 doubles, 17 triples, 65 home runs, 242 RBI, 326 runs scored and 110 stolen bases in 502 minor league games played over parts of five minor league seasons (2008-12) in the Padres organization.
