Padres reinstate Headley from DL, place Maybin on DL

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Padres today announced that they have reinstated infielder Chase Headley from the 15-day disabled list and have placed outfielder Cameron Maybin on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 16) with a right wrist impingement. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Headley, 28, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on March 31, retroactive to March 22, with a fractured left thumb suffered on March 17. In four games with Single-A Lake Elsinore on a rehabilitation assignment, he hit .250 (3-for-12) with a double and two strikeouts. The switch-hitter set career-highs in nearly every offensive category in 2012, hitting .286 (173-for-604) with 31 doubles, two triples, 31 home runs, a National-League leading 115 RBI and 95 runs scored in 161 games played for the Padres.

Maybin, 26, has hit .091 (3-for-33) with a double, a RBI and three runs scored in 10 games played thus far. The right-handed hitter has started 10 of the club's 14 games in center field. Over parts of seven Major League seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2007), Florida Marlins (2008-10) and Padres (2011-13), he has hit .248 (397-for-1604) with 69 doubles, 18 triples, 30 home runs, 131 RBI, 245 runs scored and 85 stolen bases in 462 games played.
