First Responders Recognition to launch

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced the club will launch its first responders recognition program on Tuesday, April 23, with the first of six Tuesday home game salutes this season.

"The Padres have a longstanding history of honoring those who serve, and San Diego's first responders serve our community selflessly every day," said Padres Executive Chairman Ron Fowler. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize their bravery and thank them and their families for the sacrifices they make on our behalf."

Prior to Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, more than 100 uniformed officers from eight first responder agencies will line the bases for a special pregame ceremony to kick off a season of salutes. Border Patrol, California Highway Patrol, FBI, Harbor Patrol, San Diego Fire-Rescue, San Diego Lifeguards, San Diego Police and San Diego Sheriff will be represented on the field. San Diego Police Chief Lansdowne and San Diego Fire-Rescue Chief Mainar will throw the Ceremonial First Pitch.

Also Tuesday, the Padres Foundation, in partnership with Qualcomm, will present a financial contribution to organizations that support spouses and children of fallen officers.

As part of the first responders recognition program, the Padres also announce the club now offers first responders the same ticket discount extended to the military -- $6 off all tickets priced $14 and higher. Discounted tickets can be purchased at the Petco Park box office with appropriate identification.
