SAN DIEGO -- One positive aspect of the Padres' play over the past few weeks has been the solid defensive work from essentially the entire roster, as the club had not committed an error in its last 11 games entering Saturday.

That streak, which tied the club record for consecutive error-free games, ended in Saturday night's contest against San Francisco when Carlos Quentin misplayed Pablo Sandoval's third-inning double, allowing Angel Pagan to score. Defensive play has been an emphasis since Spring Training, according to manager Bud Black.

"We have talked a lot about our defense and what that means to our pitching and what that means to a game that has to be played the right way," Black said. "The last two weeks have been real good, especially [Everth] Cabrera and the middle part of the diamond. I think it starts with the guys in the middle who get a lot of chances. The infielders have been making the plays they should make and making what I think you would call above-average plays."

The errorless streak was the Padres' longest since going 11 games without an error from Aug. 17-28, 2010. The club has never had a streak of 12 error-free games.
