Maybin might start rehab stint on Friday

SAN DIEGO -- Center fielder Cameron Maybin could be headed out on a Minor League rehabilitation stint as soon as Friday if he responds well to swinging the bat this week.

Maybin, who on Sunday missed his 28th consecutive game with a right wrist impingement, will hit in the batting cage and on the field before games on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

"You can expect if Cam has a good three days, baseball activities, hitting in the cage and on the field, you could expect to see him go out Friday," said Padres manager Bud Black. "...We feel confident where Cam is."

Maybin has been on the disabled list since April 17 and his recovery has been slow. Surgery was once an option and might be something he revisits during the offseason, but Maybin's wrist has responded well in the last few weeks.

Maybin was hitting .091 in his first 33 at-bats with five strikeouts before sustaining the injury while making a catch against the Dodgers last month.
