Friars pick up another backstop, Dial, in Round 15

The Padres used back-to-back picks on catchers when they selected Tyler Dial in the 15th round (448th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.

Dial was the third consecutive junior college player selected by the Padres after he spent last season at Gulf Coast Community College. He attended Auburn in 2010, but redshirted his first season.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder was a middle-of-the-order hitter for Gulf Coast last season.

Dial attended a Padres workout a couple of weeks ago, and he is expected to sign with the team instead of attending Columbus State next season.
