Padres assistant general manager Chad MacDonald called Rod Boykin a tremendous get for the team in the 12th round (358th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.
A center fielder from Edgewood Academy in Alabama, Boykin hit .538 with 56 stolen bases.
"A plus-plus athlete with plus-plus impact speed," MacDonald said.
Boykin has the option of becoming a dual-sport athlete (football) at Alabama State if he doesn't sign with the Padres.
