Street throws simulated game as rehab progresses

SAN DIEGO -- Hours before Monday's 7-6 win over Atlanta, Huston Street was all alone in right field, dressed in full uniform. He dropped his glove and started doing lunges and stretching out his legs -- more specifically his calf.

Street threw a simulated game on Monday, his first time facing hitters since he was placed on the 15-day disabled list after straining his left calf running prior to a game against the Blue Jays on May 31. The move as retroactive to May 30, and Street said at the time that he didn't think he'd need the entire time to get healthy.

"Threw the ball well, his calf seems to be fine," Padres manager Bud Black said.

Street threw all of his pitches, but the Padres closer does want to work on the consistency of his slider before he returns to the Padres.

Street is 0-3 with 11 saves in 12 opportunities, and has a 4.43 ERA. He has allowed seven home runs in 20 1/3 innings.

Street will pitch again on Wednesday for Class A Lake Elsinore before the Padres re-evaluate his status.

"He's close to being ready and feels confident arm-wise," Black said. "But we have to make sure his leg is fine."
