Padres select LHP Colt Hynes from Triple-A Tucson


SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced they have selected left-handed pitcher Colt Hynes from Triple-A Tucson and have optioned right-handed pitcher Brad Brach to the same Tucson club.    Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Hynes, 28, has gone 2-0 with a 1.52 ERA (8 ER, 47.1 IP) and 58 strikeouts against just two walks over 41 relief appearances this season between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson. In 31 relief outings for Tucson, he is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA (7 ER, 35.0 IP) with 42 strikeouts against two walks. Originally signed by the Padres as a 31st-round selection in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, he has gone 21-25 with a 3.59 ERA (200 ER, 501.1 IP) and 380 strikeouts against 118 walks in 323 games, 21 starts, over parts of seven minor league seasons (2007-13) in the Padres organization. The southpaw's first appearance will be his Major League debut.

Brach, 27, was recalled on July 8 for his third stint with the Padres this season, having made his second consecutive Opening Day roster for San Diego this year. In 25 games total for San Diego so far this season, he is 1-0 with a 3.97 ERA (10 ER, 22.2 IP) with 24 strikeouts against 11 walks. Over 15 relief appearances for Tucson, he has gone 3-1 with a 3.22 ERA (8 ER, 22.1 IP) with 27 strikeouts against eight walks.  

With today's transactions, the Padres currently have a full 40-man roster.
