San Diego, CA - The San Diego Padres today reinstated outfielder Scott Hairston from the 15-day disabled list and placed outfielder Brian Giles on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 19) with a right knee contusion. Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.
Hairston, 29, injured himself during the June 2 game against the Phillies and was placed on the DL the following day. He went 1-for-10 (.100) with one run scored, one walk and was hit by two pitches in three games as part of a rehab assignment with Single-A Lake Elsinore. In 43 games with the Padres this year, Hairston has hit .327 (48-for-147) with 10 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 23 RBI and 21 runs scored. Over parts of six Major League seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2004-07) and Padres (2007-09), Hairston has hit .257 (285-for-1,110) with 64 doubles, 12 triples, 49 home runs, 121 RBI and 141 runs scored in 387 games.
Giles, 38, has played in 61 games this season for the Padres, hitting .191 (43-for-225) with 10 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 23 RBI and 18 runs scored. Over parts of 15 Major League seasons with the Cleveland Indians (1995-98), Pittsburgh Pirates (1999-2003) and Padres (2003-2009), Giles has hit .291 (1,897-for-6,527) with 411 doubles, 55 triples, 287 home runs, 1,087 RBI and 1,121 runs scored in 1,847 games. He ranks on the franchise all-time list in games played (9th, 833), hits (5th, 872), RBI (8th, 415) and runs scored (4th, 470).
