The San Diego Padres today announced that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Brad Brach from Triple-A Tucson and have designated right-handed pitcher Edinson Volquez for assignment. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Brach, 27, is making his fourth stint with the Padres this season after making his second career Opening Day roster this year. Over 30 relief outings for Tucson, the right-hander has gone 3-3 with a 2.83 ERA (13 ER, 41.1 IP), three saves and 42 strikeouts against 14 walks. Over parts of three Major League seasons with the Padres (2011-13), Brach has posted a 3-6 record with a 3.92 ERA (42 ER, 96.1 IP) and 110 strikeouts against 51 walks.

Volquez, 30, has gone 9-10 with a 6.01 ERA (95 ER, 142.1 IP), a .291 (168-for-577) opponents batting average and 116 strikeouts against 69 walks. Acquired by the Padres as part of five-player trade from the Cincinnati Reds in December of 2011, the right-hander has gone 53-50 with a 4.77 ERA (436 ER, 822.0 IP) and 769 strikeouts against 441 walks in 153 games, 149 starts, over parts of nine Major League seasons with the Texas Rangers (2005-07), Reds (2008-11) and Padres (2012-13).

With today's transaction the Padres currently have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
