CINCINNATI -- A day after activating Henry Blanco from the 15-day disabled list, the Padres also activated second baseman David Eckstein from the 15-day DL, as expected.
Both had been nursing right hamstring injuries since early July. Eckstein, who injured his in the Dodgers series, said he's ready to get back on the field.
"Yesterday we ran all over and I felt really good," Ecksten said.
Padres manager Bud Black inserted Eckstein second in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds. Eckstein said rehabbing from the hamstring injury took longer than he originally anticipated.
"You think you're OK," Eckstein said. "Then you go out there and run and it kind of gets you. It's kind of one of the tough things when you don't know when you're ready."
To make room for Eckstein, the Padres optioned outfielder Drew Macias to Triple-A Portland. In 22 games with the club, Macias hit .182 with a homer and five RBIs.
Eckstein joins catcher Blanco, who was activated after Monday's game against the Reds. Blanco also was in the lineup Tuesday, hitting seventh.
