Pat Murphy will return for his fifth season in the Padres' system and second at Triple-A, this time at El Paso. Last year, the Triple-A Club was in Tucson. Rich Dauer will return for his second year at Double-A San Antonio after leading the team to the Texas League championship and earning the loop's Manager of the Year Award. Michael Collins will manage Class A Fort Wayne after managing Peoria in 2013 and the Dominican Summer League club in '12. Evaristo Lantigua returns as coordinator of instruction for the Dominican Summer League entry, and it will be his eighth season with the organization.
On Murphy's Triple-A staff, Mike Cather becomes pitching coach after two years as the organization's pitching coordinator, and Jacque Jones will be the hitting coach after working at San Antonio in 2013 and Fort Wayne in '12.
Jimmy Jones returns to San Antonio as pitching coach, and Francisco Morales becomes San Antonio's hitting coach after spending the previous three seasons on the Indians' Major League staff.
Bronswell Patrick will be pitching coach at Lake Elsinore after spending the last two years at Tucson, and former Major League catcher Jody Davis will join the Lake Elsinore coaching staff after spending the last two seasons managing in the Cubs' system, as well as in the Canadian Baseball League and the Venezuelan Winter League.
At Fort Wayne, Collins replaces Jose Valentin, who was promoted to the Padres' Major League staff as first-base coach, and pitching coach Burt Hooton and hitting coach Morgan Burkhart return.
Under Wine at Eugene will be pitching coach Nelson Cruz and hitting coach Homer Bush, a former Padres Draft pick who played parts of seven seasons in the Majors.
At Peoria, Barajas is joined by pitching coach Dave Rajsich, who is in his 15th year in the system, and hitting coach Carlos Sosa. Returning to the Dominican Summer League club will be pitching coaches Mel Rojas and Jackson Quezada, infield coach Jose Guillen and outfield coach Julio Ramirez.
The roving instructors returning the the staff are field coordinator Randy Johnson, hitting coordinator Sean Berry, outfield/baserunning Coordinator Glen Barker, strength and conditioning coordinator Jordan Wolf, rehab coordinator Ryan Bitzel and medical coordinator Joseph Tarantino.
The Padres announced in September 2012 that former all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman, who had been serving as special assistant to the president and CEO, would become upper-level pitching coordinator. Joining the Padres' staff also will be pitching coordinator Gorman Heimueller and infield coordinator Eddie Rodriguez.
