Padres announce changes to March exhibition games

The San Diego Padres today announced changes to the March 2014 exhibition game schedule. As was previously announced, the Padres will host the Cleveland Indians for two exhibition games in San Diego prior to the regular season opener. Both games will be played at the University of San Diego's Fowler Park and Cunningham Field, the first on Friday, March 28 at 6:10 p.m. PT, and the second on Saturday, March 29 at 1:10 p.m. PT.

"We're thrilled to be able to provide a unique showcase of Major League Baseball in an intimate college setting here in San Diego," said Padres President and CEO Mike Dee. "As this is still spring training, these contests will bring a spring training-like atmosphere to our great fans in San Diego. We appreciate the support of Ky Snyder and the entire USD Athletics Department as well as the Cleveland Indians.

"We are excited to welcome the Padres to Fowler Park and to showcase our facility to a broader baseball audience," said USD Executive Director of Athletics Ky Snyder. "Fowler Park is a true gem and now, not only will future major leaguers have the opportunity to enjoy its confines, but so will today's major league players."

The previously announced game vs. the Mexico City Red Devils, which was scheduled to be played on Thursday, March 27 at Petco Park, has been cancelled for this season due to the change in the Padres' Opening Day schedule. On January 9, it was announced that the Padres' home opener vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, March 31 has been selected by ESPN as the Sunday Night Baseball 2014 opener, moving that game to Sunday, March 30 at 5:05 p.m. PT.

Tickets for both games will be sold by USD. Padres Season Ticket Members and select USD supporters will be given early access to purchase tickets. Pricing and additional details will be announced in the coming weeks.
