SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced the club's initial 2014 promotional schedule, headlined by "Baseball Night in San Diego" every Saturday and Salute to the Military activities every Sunday. Single-game tickets for the 2014 season go on sale to the general public in conjunction with FanFest this Saturday, February 8, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
The season starts with "Opening Night," a nationally televised game on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, March 30 at 5:05 p.m. Every fan in attendance will receive a 2014 Padres schedule cling. After an off day on Monday, the Padres will continue the three-game series with Opening Day, complete with all traditional Opening Day ceremonies, on Tuesday, April 1 at 3:40 p.m. Every fan in attendance will again receive a 2014 Padres schedule cling, as well as an Opening Day hat.
As the Padres celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Petco Park in 2014, the weekend of May 9-11 has been selected as 10th Anniversary Weekend with a special postgame fireworks show on Friday (May 9) and a 10th Anniversary commemorative canvas art collectible on Saturday (May 10).
In 2014, the club will also be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 1984 National League Champion Padres. For the first three games of the four-game series against the Chicago Cubs (May 22-25), the Padres will wear throwback brown and orange 1984 jerseys. Friday, May 23 has been dubbed Padres Brownout, when all fans are encouraged to break out their old "Cubs Busters" T-shirts and fill Petco Park with Padres brown. On Saturday, May 24, all fans will receive a retro Padres replica jersey, and on Sunday, May 25, all fans will receive a pair of sunglasses.
Petco Park will once again be the place to be on Friday nights in San Diego, with the return of pregame theme parties at the Park at the Park nearly every week. Friday parties include the expansion of the ever-popular BeerFest events to three times in 2014 (May 2, June 6, Sept. 19) as well as WineFest (Aug. 1). The events will feature food and drink specials starting at 5:00 p.m. Entry to the Friday parties is included with a paid ticket to that night's game. Summer Sky Blast will return to Petco Park on Friday, June 27.
This season, the Padres are bringing back a tradition from the late 90's, reinstating Saturdays as "Baseball Night in San Diego." Every Saturday home game will feature a giveaway for every fan in attendance. The lineup includes three replica jerseys (April 19, May 24 and July 19), as well as popular wearable items like the Padres long-sleeve T-shirt (April 12), Beat LA T-shirt (June 21), Padres fedora (June 28), and Padres mesh hat (August 30). An old fan favorite, the Padres floppy hat, returns this year, on August 2. Other useful items include a Padres blanket (May 3), a Padres beach towel (June 7) and a Padres sports bag (July 5). The giveaway lineup is rounded out the final weekend of the season with a Padres Bobblehead (Sept. 20).
Home Sundays this season will continue the tradition of a family-focused day honoring San Diego's military, with 13 Salute to the Military games. Military Opening Day is set for Sunday, April 13. In addition to five individual branch appreciation days in 2014, the Padres will bring back Military Spouse Appreciation Day on Mother's Day (May 11), Salute to the Military Child (June 29), Salute to Veterans (July 20) and Military Family Salute (Sept. 21). Every Sunday day game also will feature the return of KidsFest at Park at the Park and Sunday Signings.
Back by popular demand: Taco Tuesdays return every Tuesday home game in 2014 (with the exception of Opening Day, April 1). In addition, the first Tuesday home game of every month (April 1 excluded) will feature a formal salute to our community's First Responders, while nearly every Tuesday in 2014 will include a First Responders recognition.
Every Thursday night home game in 2014 is College Night, featuring special discounts for college students with a valid student ID.
