Dorminy was recommended by scout Andrew Salvo, who also recommended second-round pick Michael Gettys and fifth-round pick Auston Bousfield. Both are outfielders.
"He's a pitch-ability lefty who throws up to 93 mph with a feel for a curveball and changeup," Salvo said. "Maybe a Randy Wolf /Ted Lilly comp. He's a good athlete and an outstanding competitor."
Dorminy was 11-3 with a 3.22 ERA in 18 games (16 starts) with five complete games for a team that advanced to the NAIA World Series last month.
Dorminy struck out 131 batters in 109 innings and allowed 89 hits. He had 24 walks and opponents hit .222 against him.
Dorminy originally signed with the University of South Florida and later attended Lurleen B. Wallace Community College.
