In all, 20 of the 25 pitchers selected by San Diego were college pitchers.

Padres 18th round pick Maxwell MacNabb attended the University of San Diego and grew up in Encinitas, California, attending La Costa Canyon High School. The left-handed pitcher, who was primarily used out of the bullpen for the Toreros, played four seasons for San Diego and accumulated a career 11-7 record with a 4.55 ERA.
Friars 23rd round pick Jason Jester out of Texas A&M University was also selected by the Padres in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft in the 30th round.
Padres 28th round pick Johnny Manziel was the 2012 recipient of the Heisman Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding player in college football, as the quarterback at Texas A&M University. The 21 year-old shortstop was selected 22nd-overall in the 2014 NFL Draft and is the ninth player to both win the Heisman Trophy and be selected in Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft.
Padres 35th round pick RHP Cobi Johnson is the son of longtime Blue Jays minor league pitching coordinator, Dane Johnson.
