All-Star contender Street a model of consistency

SAN DIEGO -- A very quiet month of June for Padres' reliever Huston Street has by no means diminished his standing as one of the top closers in the game.

Heading into Saturday's game against the D-backs, Street had only appeared in six of the team's first 24 games in June.

He has tossed six scoreless innings in that stretch with three saves -- continuing an impressive mark, as he has yet to blow a save this season. He's a perfect 20-for-20 in save opportunities.

Since 2012, he has the best save percentage (96.2 percent) in the big leagues.

Street, who was picked to the National League All-Star team in 2012, the Padres' lone representative that season, looks like the smart -- and deserving -- pick again this season.

The teams will be announced a week from Sunday, but there's still time in vote in position players for the game.

San Diego players on the ballot include shortstop Everth Cabrera, first baseman Yonder Alonso, second baseman Jedd Gyorko, third baseman Chase Headley, catcher Yasmani Grandal and outfielders Chris Denorfia, Seth Smith, Carlos Quentin and Will Venable.

Fans can cast their votes for starters at -- online or on a mobile device -- using the 2014 All-Star Game Ballot Sponsored by Experian until Thursday, July 3, at 8:59 p.m. PT. The 2014 All-Star Game will be played at Target Field on Tuesday, July 15, on FOX.
