SAN DIEGO -- Both the Padres and D-backs challenged close plays at first base in the bottom of the sixth inning during their contest at Petco Park Sunday afternoon -- but only Arizona was successful in having the call overturned in its favor.

With no outs and the bases empty, Yasmani Grandal hit a chopper that deflected off the glove of D-backs pitcher Mike Bolsinger. He recovered to throw to first, and Grandal was called out. Padres manager Bud Black challenged, but the call stood to give the D-backs the first out of the inning.

Then, after Tommy Medica walked, Cameron Maybin hit another grounder to Bolsinger, who bare-handed it and threw to first for an attempted fielder's choice. Maybin was called safe, but Arizona manager Kirk Gibson challenged and the call was overturned for the second out.

Alexi Amarista followed with a groundout to first to end the inning with the Padres ahead, 2-1.
