Black, Padres lose challenge on play at second

ATLANTA -- San Diego manager Bud Black put replay to the test in the top of the fifth inning, but the review didn't go the Padres' way in Friday's game against the Braves.

With Tommy Medica on first base, Jeff Francoeur hit a ground ball to third baseman Chris Johnson, who threw to second baseman Tommy La Stella for a forceout on a close play.

Medica was ruled out, but Black challenged the call, which stood after a three-minute, one-second review. Play resumed with the Padres holding a 4-0 lead in the first contest of the four-game series.

The Padres would add a run later in the inning on Rene Rivera's RBI single to make it 5-0.
