Padres at the plate: Kyle Blanks hit a two-run double off the center-field wall in the top of the first. In the third inning, Scott Hairston launched a long three-run home run to left field. Oscar Salazar added a solo homer in the fifth inning, and Everth Cabrera led off the sixth inning with a homer to right field.

Reds on the mound: Opening Day starter Aaron Harang pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed five runs -- four earned -- on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts. After six innings of scoreless work this spring, Arthur Rhodes gave up his first run on the Salazar homer. Rhodes gave up two hits in his one-third of an inning. Jared Burton pitched one inning and gave up one earned run on three hits with one strikeout. Burton leads the Reds with four homers allowed this spring.

Padres on the mound: Fifth-starter candidate Mat Latos gave up one unearned run on three hits over his three innings. He walked two, struck out three and made two wild pitches. He threw 67 pitches, 40 for strikes.

Worth noting: This definitely was not a clean game with a combined six errors committed through the first seven innings. Three were made by the Reds and three were committed by the Padres.

Cactus League records: Reds 9-15-2; Padres 17-10-1.

Up next: It's a big day for the Reds' fifth-starter battle as both remaining candidates will get their final chances. Mike Leake will start in the 4:05 p.m. ET game vs. the A's in Phoenix. At 10:05 p.m. ET in Las Vegas, Travis Wood will be on the mound vs. the Dodgers. Both pitchers are expected to work five innings. Aroldis Chapman, who is likely headed to the Minor Leagues, is scheduled for three innings behind Leake. Joey Votto, Orlando Cabrera, Jay Bruce and Brandon Phillips will be the contingent in Las Vegas.

The Padres conclude Cactus League play on Wednesday with a 12:05 p.m. PT game against the Kansas City Royals at the Peoria Sports Complex. The game will be carried on AM 1700. Jon Garland, who will be the Opening Day starting pitcher on April 5 against Arizona, gets the start and will likely go in upwards of seven innings. His next appearance will come against the D-backs, as Garland will be making his first Opening Day assignment.
