SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced the dedication of the Selig Hall of Fame Plaza at Petco Park in honor of outgoing Commissioner of Baseball Allan H. (Bud) Selig.
"We are thrilled to announce the dedication of the Selig Hall of Fame Plaza," said Padres Executive Chairman Ron Fowler. "Moving forward, this area of the ballpark will serve as the cornerstone of a project celebrating the history of this franchise throughout Petco Park. It will bear Commissioner Selig's name in recognition of, and with gratitude for, all that he has done for the game of baseball, both in San Diego and around the world."
The Selig Hall of Fame Plaza, near the Western Metal Supply Co. Building in left field, previously was known as Palm Court Plaza. The street-level space is located just inside the busiest gate at Petco Park. As part of the Park at the Park, the area is open to the public for fans to enjoy year-round.
Today's dedication ceremony coincided with Selig's stop in San Diego during his final-year tour of MLB ballparks. In addition to Commissioner Selig, it was attended by Padres executives including Lead Investor Peter Seidler, Executive Chairman Ron Fowler and President and CEO Mike Dee, as well as San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts and members of the Padres front office staff.
