Padres recall Baumann, place Morrow on paternity list

The Padres recalled left-hander Buddy Baumann from Triple-A El Paso for his third stint in the Majors prior to Friday's series opener against the Marlins. He takes the roster spot of righty Brandon Morrow, who was placed on the paternity leave list.

George Charles Baumann Bio Info

George Charles Baumann IV…married to Sarah…attended Missouri State University where he was named Second Team All-America by Collegiate Baseball News and the ABCA as well as Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2009…was a finalist for the College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year and a semifinalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award in 2009…graduated from Logan-Rogersville (MO) High School in 2006 where he went 10-2 with a 1.43 ERA with 143 strikeouts in 78.0 innings to earn all-state honors during his senior year…originally signed by Royals' scouts Scott Melvin.

2016

Spent the majority of the season with Triple-A El Paso while also making his Major League Debut for the Padres, working in 11 games total and going 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA (4 ER, 9.2 IP), with 10 strikeouts against four walks over four stints with San Diego eceived his first career call-up on 7/15 and made his Major League debut on 7/16 vs. SF, recording one out on one pitch before being optioned back to El Paso the next day on 7/17. His other stints with San Diego came from 7/27-8/12, 8/26-8/28 and 9/21 through the end of the season. Earned his first career win on 8/6 vs. PHI, working 1.2 scoreless innings, retiring all five batters faced. Began the season on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain…transferred to the 60-day on 4/20…made his season debut with El Paso on 6/3 on a rehab assignment…reinstated from the 60-day and optioned to El Paso on 7/1.

2015

Spent the entire season with Triple-A Omaha, going 3-4 with a 3.04 ERA (26 ER, 77.0 IP) and 84 strikeouts against 25 walks in 34 appearances, six starts....In his 28 relief outings for Omaha he went 3-1 with a 2.20 ERA(14 ER, 57.1 IP) and 60 strikeouts against 19 walks… in his six starts, went 0-3 with a 5.49 ERA (12 ER, 19.2 IP)....Pitched in the Venezuelan Winter League following the season.
