Jankowski activated from DL, sent to Minors

Padres manager Andy Green said Friday that outfielder Travis Jankowski's health is no longer an issue. All the reports he received about Jankowski's rehab assessment were positive. But what Jankowski needs at the moment is consistent at-bats, and that's not available right now in San Diego.

Travis Paul Jankowski…graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School (PA) where he was a two-time All State selection…led Lancaster to District 3 Double-A Championship, hitting .471 with 20 RBI and 25 runs scored as a senior with 24 stolen bases…also played four years of varsity football as wide receiver…attended Stony Brook University (NY)…named ABCA/Rawlings National Co-Player of the Year…was Stony Brook's first ever first-round selection…selected as a Louisville Slugger second team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, leading the nation in hits, runs scored and triples and ranking in the top 10 in the country in batting average and stolen bases in 2012…set school record for hits, runs scored, triples and stolen bases in a season…set school Division I record for batting average in a season and had highest batting average at Stony Brook since 1991…signed by Padres' scout Jim Bretz.

Made his first career Opening Day roster and played in 131 games, making 82 total starts this season with 77 in center field, three in left field and two in right field...His 30 stolen bases ranked tied for 10th in the Majors, eighth in the National League and second among all rookies, the fifth-most ever by a Padre in their rookie season...Also ranked tied for second in walks (42) and tied for seventh in runs scored (53) among all Major League rookies...Reached base safely (via hit, walk or HBP) in 24 straight games from 7/31 - 8/26, the longest by a Padre in 2016 and the second-longest by a National League rookie, behind a 26-game hit streak for the Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz...hit .315 (29-for-92) with 19 runs scored, 11 walks and 11 stolen bases over that span...Became just the fourth Padres player to ever post a streak of reaching base safely in 24-or-more straight games during their rookie season and first to do so since Roberto Alomar had a 25-game streak in 1988...only others to do so were Benito Santiago (34 in 1987) and Gene Richards (28 in 1977)...When leading off an inning, he hit .306 (41-for-134) with 19 walks and an .773 OPS (.392 OBP, .381 SLG)…his .392 OBP when leading off an inning ranked 24th-best among qualifying Major League hitters, 16th in the NL and third among all Major League rookies...Hit .275 (69-for-251) against right-handed pitching compared to a .155 (13-for-84) average against lefties...In games in which he stole a base this season the Padres were 19-7 (.731)...Hit .308 (32-for-104) with five doubles, one home run, three RBI, 11 walks and 18 runs scored over 27 games in August ...Entered the 2016 campaign rated as the No. 6 prospect in the Padres organization by Baseball America.

Made his Major League debut for the Padres, playing in 34 games total for San Diego after splitting the rest of the season between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso....Began the year with San Antonio, hitting .316 (89-282) with 23 stolen bases and 50 runs scored in 73 games for the Missions....Named a Texas League Mid-Season All-Star, starting the game for the Texas League South team batting leadoff in center field… went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the game on June 30....After the Texas League All-Star game, missed time with San Antonio from 7/1-21 while playing for Team USA in the Pan-Am games in Toronto, hitting .385 (15-39) for Silver-Medal Winning Team USA, the second-best average for USA behind Tyler Pastornicky (.419)...After returning from the Pan-Am games played in one game for SanAntonio on 7/21 before being transferred to Triple-A El Paso on 7/22, hitting .392 (38-97) with nine stolen bases and 19 runs scored in 24 games for the Chihuahuas....Had his contract selected by San Diego on 8/19 for his first career Major League call-up, spending the remainder of the season with the Big League club....Made his Major League debut for the Padres on 8/21 with a start vs. STL at Petco Park, batting ninth in center field… went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in his Big League debut....With two hits in his first two plate appearances in his debut, became the third Padre to have two hits in his first two PA in his first game and first since Wiki Gonzalez on 8/14/99 (also, John Sipin on 5/24/69)....Over his first three career games from 8/21-23, went 5-for-9, the first Padre to have five hits in his first three career games since Donaldo Mendez in 2001....Started 27 games total for San Diego, with 21 in center field and six in right field....With runners in scoring position for San Diego, hit .304 (7-23), including .364 (4-11) with RISP and two outs....Hit his first career home run on 9/13 at SF with a solo home run off of Mike Leake.
