Eric Lance Lauer...son of Rick and Carole Lauer...has an older sister, Carli...was a three-year letter award winner at Kent State...as a junior in 2016, was named Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Year, College Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher of the Year and a 2016 Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist...his 0.69 ERA while going 10-2 in 2016 was the nation's lowest ERA in more than 30 years...was the 505th overall pick by Toronto in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign...lettered four years at Midview High School, winning the conference championships in 2012 and 2013...as a high school senior, was team captain, All-County, All-Conference, First Team All-State, team MVP, Pitcher of the Year and Lorain County D1 Player of the Year...has a pet dog, Taz, and two cats, Snickers and Sampson... enjoys golfing and playing the guitar...his favorite TV show is Family Guy and favorite actors are Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg...roots for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots...originally signed by Padres scout Matt Maloney.

Split the season between Lake Elsinore (A) and San Antonio (AA), posting a combined 6-8 record and a 3.30 ERA (45 ER, 122.2 IP)...Named a California League Mid-Season All-Star for Lake Elsinore...prior to the All-Star game, he owned a 2.15 ERA (15 ER, 62.2 IP)...Struck out a career-high 10 hitters on 6/20 vs. Rancho Cucamonga but was tagged with the loss in the Storm's 5-3 defeat...Promoted to San Antonio on 6/28 and made 10 appearances (nine starts), posting a 4-3 record with a 3.93 ERA (24 ER, 55.0 IP) with 48 SO against 17 BB...In his Double-A debut on 7/2, tossed a career-high 7.2-shutout innings and earned the win at Northwest Arkansas, striking out nine and walking none in the Missions' 1-0 victory...In his final five appearances (four starts) in August from 8/1-31, went 2-1 with a 1.00 ERA (3 ER, 27.0 IP) with 26 SO to nine BB and limited the opposition to a .181 average...Made his first career postseason performance with San Antonio on 9/9 at Midland in Game 4 of the Texas League semifinals...allowed seven hits and one run in 4.2 IP in the Missions' 6-3 defeat.
